Love this series. I'm into season 3 and just can't get enough of it. This is my "after the hubby goes to bed" addiction. I laugh, I cry, I get angry at characters but I really like the series. There are 2 characters in this series that appear in "Dr. Blake Murder Mysteries" which is another good Australian series. Another good one is "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" where you may see some of the same actors.

Season 2 was not as good as Season 1. One of the main reasons is that it opens with 1 of the characters sitting in a rocking chair decades after what we are watching. We learn that the whole story is a flashback as this character tells his or her life story. This set up RUINS a lot of the suspense in several plot lines. What were they thinking ???

There is an alternate ending to the season finale that was not on the DVD that I got from the library. If I were you, I would make sure you have seen the alternate ending before you go on to season three or you will be lost.

Yes, this series is quite the soap opera - the story is set in Australia during the 1950s. There are class issues, race issues, sexuality issues and religious issues and many of the characters are suffering from what today would be classified as post-traumatic stress problems from WWII experiences. The numerous romance stories get a bit tedious, but the acting is good and the setting is interesting - so get sucked into it! Be sure to start with the first season to understand the characters-from the interfering town gossip to the proper drama queen grandma. As they often say in the series, it is the 1950s and times are changing.

Excellent series dealing with real stuff - not always pleasant -

Still an interesting story, but has begun to fade a bit with more dialogue than events. Series one far more interesting.

I absolutely Love this Series --- takes place in Australia in early 1950's; it's an on-going TV series in Australia, great characters and some "challenging" topics are explored. If you miss Downton Abbey --- this is a superb next addiction. I'm waiting for Season 3 to arrive.

Not nearly as gripping as season one, nor as believably written and acted. Still, it was good. Nothing is resolved, of course, or else how to keep you watching? Wonder if there'll be a 3rd season to resolve some of the cliffhangers of this season. And people who think the 1950's were a simpler time really haven't done their homework.

Captivating series! Season 2 is as interesting as Season 1. One intrigue after another...

I came upon this series by accident on BBC Canada. I was completely hooked from the start. I love series that are set in a simpler time so to speak.
I was a child of the late 50's and 60's and appreciated that there are still classy shows on television. I am waiting for Series 3 to come on DVD.

This is an Australian series set in the early 1950's. It's basically a soap opera, but a well-made, intelligent one. The characters reflect the repressive, socially constrained attitudes of the period especially the family matriarch who is obsessively controlling of the family members and critical of people in general. I found it hard to become involved in a storyline which reflected such a stifling and ultra conforming period in history, but the series is well done and well-acted. I came back for Series Two, just to see how everything was resolved.
