GREAT 1938 Irving Berlin romantic musical comedy. I've really been hitting the tops recently in my exploration of early film musicals.
This fascinating films covers a couple decades of evolution of dance band music from ragtime through swing against a backdrop of the romance between a developing band's members and their singer/dancer star (Alice Faye).
Lots of great tunes including 'Heat Wave' and dance sequences, too - especially The Walking Stick Song with six backup lady dancers madly twirling their sticks while making lots of foot moves.
Ethel Merman was excellent, too; particularly enjoyed her 'A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody.
Oh, and it was fun to see a young Phil Silvers again doing some great tap dancing.

Sensational cast, including the wonderful Alice Faye. Music by Irving Berlin is terrific - very entertaining classic!
