I may be in the minority, but I absolutely LOVE this movie! There is only one minor detail that could (and probably should)have been left out. That aside, this is a wonderful Christmas movie that will warm your heart. Mara Wilson is incredible as Susan, and gives a great performance. The two things I love most about this movie are (1)It's full of vivid colors (2)The elements of romance between Mara's mother and Brian (Dylan McDermott), who plays her on-again, off-again boyfriend. The story isn't just about a girl whose mother taught her not to believe in Santa Claus. It's also about her mom, wanting to trust and love someone again. Judging from the other reviews, I'm the only one, but I definitely recommend this film.

I think that it is a good idea to watch the black and white copy before the coloured copy. I say that because that is what I did yesterday , I thought that the B. W. Copy was more chistmasy than the colour copy. It has the Christmas feeling to it.

1947's Miracle On 34th Street was made at an interesting time: immediately after WW II, when people desired warmth and reassurance, and between the highs of 1930s and early 1940s comedy, and the lows of 1950s smarm. It has a lot going for it: an Oscar-winning performance by Edmund Gwen, Natalie Wood, the most adorable skeptic ever, gorgeous black and white photography, and some sharp dialogue, especially about why you shouldn't teach children to believe what isn't true. A message which is quickly set aside, because: Santa! And this film has other messages, like: a woman should not be able to rear her child as she sees fit if she's a rational old meany head; it's okay to leave your child with multiple strange men, especially one who is mentally ill and attacks people with sticks; and psychologists are evil. And there is far more touching and kissing of other people's children than 2017 would stand for. Honestly, this is a sweet movie full of good intentions, and your family will probably enjoy it, but do discuss it afterwards.

I don't know why people are saying it's not the original, because it is... And what a lovely movie it is, so charming and stands the test of time.

Hello. This is NOT the original 1947 version of Miracle of 34th. But a 1990s remake with Richard Attenborough playing Santa, Elizabeth Perkins as the mother, and Mara Wilson as the daughter. Good, but if you love the original not as good.
