It's all here, the sounds, the sensations and the stars! From Hitsville, U.S.A., this Emmy-winning, legendary show is hosted by Richard Pryor. It's a fast-paced, all-star reunion that spotlights performances by the biggest acts ever to come out of Detroit, including vintage footage of the groups from the sixties and seventies, a look behind the scenes at the songwriters who brought the Motown sound to fame, and a moving tribute to the man who started it all, Barry Gordy.

I recently borrowed the Motown Classics: Gold (excellent) and saw this DVD in the catalog. Motown 25 (1983) I remember watching this on t.v. - the most memorable moment at that time was Michael Jackson singing "Billie Jean" and doing the Moonwalk (think that was the first time her performed it!) For me, this was MJ at his prime. The event was hosted by Richard Pryor and Smokey Robinson and has performances by many of its stars: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves The Commodores, Lionel Ritchie, The Jackson 5, Diana Ross and The Supremes and some rather oddball additions Adam Ant? Jose Feliciano? Making it more diverse I suppose. It is lovely to see those artists who have passed on - Marvin, Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson. The 1980s clothes are certainly no great loss! Most of the performers have an archival clip from the 1960s which is nice to see them in their heyday. Overall, an enjoyable viewing.
