Lesser known animated film, but the concept and the story really opened new doors to explore in the animated field for me. The gravity of two world, one love and the other finds.

Excellent concept! Somewhat trippy (for lack of a better word!) as it sucks you right into the film and flips the perspective upside down and vice versa alternately throughout the film. Amazing artwork and very suspenseful and engaging (I find it hard to focus on super slow anime nowadays, so if you're like me I promise you will enjoy it!) One word of warning: you will get dizzy motion-sickness, lol.

Such an intriguing film! Made me gain much-needed new appreciation for the dystopian genre. The very idea of two worlds where gravity is reversed is so unique and eye-catching. The world-building here is rather fantastic, consisting of detailed backgrounds, technology, dress code, history...the directors went all out to tell the story of the universe here and immerse the audience. I definitely applaud them for that.
When looking at reviews for this on amazon, I stumbled across a commentator who said that the characters here were quite one-dimensional and flat. Upon seeing the movie for myself, I have to agree with them, which is one reason why my rating isn't higher. The movie is definitely plot-driven rather than character-driven, as the alternate gravities and societies make up the main bulk of the conflict. Because the world was given so much thought, I fear the character development suffered. The tropes were simplistic: noble boy, soft-hearted sweet girl, comical friend, crazy creeper antagonist. It's not that the characters were out-right bad, but they weren't as strong as they could've been, which disappoints me a little.
However, the movie is still worth watching. It bent my brain out of shape trying to understand every plot element, and even after a second watch, I still don't quite get it. Some might not enjoy that, but I do, as it causes me to think and puzzle over it. Actually, the first time I watched it, the movie reminded me somewhat of Castle in the Sky of Studio Ghibli, mainly because of the main boy and girl and the antagonist. There was even a similar scene at the climax of the movie, and a sort of similar message regarding nature and human life.
All things said, I would recommend it. The worlds and concepts are just so interesting to think about.

this was a great allorgory on how sometimes rules that are supposed to uphold a societies values are really there to keep folks in power. It also shows how we interpret things baseed on our perceptions. good thing perceptions can and do change
