A very good anti-war film. Quite moving without sentimentality.

This movie is subtitled, and well done. The dialogue is thrifty. The 4 men in the film represent different sides of the ware.
Grandpa, a carpenter, building boxes for Mangus, the tangerine grower. Into their lives drop two soldiers, a Chechan and a Georgian, both injured and needing attention. The story about the survival of these 4 men within grandpa's house and within the war. Read the other comments below. I highly recommend this film for ages teen and up.

There are not enough words to describe this film so I'm going to go with these: striking, touching, simple, complex, deep, engaging, patient, tearful, clear, detailed, thoughtful, tender, gentle, whimsical, embracing, brutal, forceful, gripping caring, soft, classy, elegant and enduring.

Great drama of a kind older wise man who keeps peace between wartime enemies while bringing them back to health. Beautiful country. Death, and healing. Hate and respect. Honor to all. All done with out any need for excessive "blood & guts". Highly recommend for all ages.

A must see anti-war movie. Touching, relevant and thought provoking!

Great film, should not be catalogued as Russian, since it is an Estonian & Georgian co-production, not Russian.

A near masterpiece on the nobility of (some) men and the futility of (most/all) wars. A must-see for fans of The Lemon Tree. WHY Tangerines in the English DVD title while Estonian/Georgian/Russian dialogues say mandarins?
Not quite a Christmas film, but BPL: display DVDs that promote compassion, peace and understanding: Joyeux Noel, The Other Son, Where Do we go now? Free Men, Walk on Water, etc.

Please read all previous comments, too. Thanks.
