A great choice for reading aloud as King Baby's royal demands lend themselves well to over-the-top voices. Sure to keep kids and adults giggling!

Kate Beaton's sense of humor fits perfectly with how I like to read for storytime. This is just such a fun, funny, and touching book about growing up.

There's a new crop of hipster kid books out there. Many are obnoxious, but this one actually is adorable.

Before opening this book, I thought King Baby would remain a brat throughout, but he grows and changes. I just love the tableau where he wistfully sets aside his crown.

So, instead of a picture book, let's call this a bildungsroman in miniature.

Cute account of the "tyrannical reign" of a newborn. Great for parents-to-be and anyone else expecting a new family member soon.

I adored Kate Beaton's first picture book, The Princess and the Pony, and I was so excited to get my hands on King Baby, which is just as fun (and just as sweet). When two new parents bring home their first baby, he rules the household as their stern but fair king. He demands to be given the right toys, and rewards compliance with kisses and cuddles. He explores his kingdom and keeps his subjects (mom and dad) in line. But when King Baby realizes he’s grown out of babyhood and is now a toddler, what will his subjects do without their baby monarch? This book has all of Kate Beaton’s impeccable timing, unique illustrations, and sweet but hilarious writing that is steadily becoming her hallmark, and puts a fun, heartwarming spin on the sometimes sweet, sometimes silly process of forging our own little kingdom-families.

If you have 10 minutes, you've got time to laugh at this perfect, delightful picture book.

A sassy and hysterically entitled Baby will have you laughing out loud as you read. This book gives the reader a true account of the power children have over their family. As a soon-to-be-aunt, I now know what I am in for!

Long live the King. And Kate Beaton. I love those moments when I get to laughing hard at something my kids also find hilarious, a somewhat rare feat Kate Beaton has accomplished in both of her picture books (The Princess and the Pony, and now King Baby).
