"Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell." But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations"-- from publisher's web site.

Great book and writing about an older man who thinks he needs to commit suicide to be with his wife; the love of his life who has already passed. But life takes him in a different direction. Great narration as an audio book.

A perfect blend of humor and heartache, A Man Called Ove was just the story I needed. I've had it on my to-read list for a long time now and when I finally started listening, the timing was perfect.

Not only is it a well crafted story in its own right, if you are a DIY type person or have someone in your life who is mystified by people who aren't inclined to learn how to change a tire or "fix a thing" ... this is the book for you. I laughed all the way through this, because I heard the familiar voices of friends and family in Ove's gripes and complaints. The characters are fantastic - especially Parvaneh... and the cat.

This book reminds me of a slightly darker version of the blockbuster cartoon, “Up” because it takes you from disliking the main character to feeling affection for him in the end. Get the audiobook as it accentuates the characters. After reading this book I watched the movie and it was bang on with the characters, albeit, not as in depth as the novel. Looking to see how Tom Hanks does when he plays the part of Ove in the upcoming American movie rendition.

What a crotchety old man! I love him. Reminds me of my grandfather in many, and often uncomfortable, ways.

I feel like each of us knows somebody like Ove—a headstrong elder from an earlier generation who's hopelessly out-of-sync with the modern ways of the world. But with age comes wisdom, only this wisdom is buried beneath a shell that's been hardened from a lifetime of experiences.

Give this book a try. You'd have to be far crotchetier than Ove not to be moved by his story.

What a lovely story to remind readers that hope and purpose can reappear, even in the face of overwhelming grief, and that each of us can make positive differences in others' lives. Heartwarming, funny, sweet and life-affirming.

I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. Ove is a curmudgeon with a heart of gold.

I was skeptical at the start, but this turned out to be a very sweet story. Humor interlaced throughout, bringing some levity to serious and sad topics, particularly in the beginning. Glad that I listened to the audiobook so I could hear the correct pronunciation of some of the characters' names!

I laughed and I cried. A wonderful read.

This has reinforced why I never give up on a book. This had a very slow beginning, and I was thinking to myself how much longer do I need to listen to this. About midway through, the book definitely redeemed itself and I didn't want it to end. I thought there was great character development. Would highly recommend.
