Thanksgiving has a way of thawing the frostiest hearts in Lake Eden. But that won't be happening for newlywed Hannah Swensen Barton—not after her husband suddenly disappears . . . Hannah has felt as bitter as November in Minnesota since Ross vanished without a trace and left their marriage in limbo. Still, she throws herself into a baking frenzy for the sake of pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving-themed treats while endless holiday orders pour into The Cookie Jar. Hannah even introduces a raspberry Danish pastry to the menu, and P.K., her husband's assistant at KCOW-TV, will be one of the first to sample it. But instead of taking a bite, P.K., who is driving Ross's car and using his desk at work, is murdered. Was someone plotting against P.K. all along or did Ross dodge a deadly dose of sweet revenge? Hannah will have to quickly sift through a cornucopia of clues and suspects to stop a killer from bringing another murder to the table . . .

I swear her writing is getting worse. Show, don't tell! And get someone to read the conversations aloud with you so they don't sound as stilted. Meanwhile Lake Eden continues as the murder capital of Minnesota - at least this book had some sympathy for the victim (unlike some of the earlier ones where it was "oh he's dead? Oh well, let's bake.") As per usual it's a cliffhanger ending, although the central murder of this book really did not hang together well as a result of being a backdrop to the cliffhanger of the previous book. Hannah and her sisters continue to eat approximately 3000 calories per day, live on four hours sleep and drink gallons of coffee while being (shock, horror) a couple of pounds overweight. Mike and Norman continue to be hung up on Hannah, although I suspect they are using her as a beard to hide their own relationship (given Lake Eden is the whitest, straightest town in Minnesota I can see why). The cookies sound nice, although I continue to mentally cut the sugar by up to two thirds - I suspect half the town is on the verge of developing type 2 diabetes given how many they eat. And yet I keep reading because they are so silly.

If you enjoyed the other books in this series, you will like this as well. A little bit of a twist at the end that I didn't expect. Can't wait for the next book!
