The United States has long been the leader in Artificial Intelligence. But Dr. Kai-Fu Lee--one of the world's most respected experts on AI--reveals that China has caught up to the US at an astonishingly rapid pace. As Sino-American competition in AI heats up, Lee envisions China and the US forming a powerful duopoly in AI. He outlines the upheaval of traditional jobs, how the suddenly unemployed will find new ways of making their lives meaningful, and how the Chinese and American governments will have to cope with the changing economic landscape.

False modesty slipped in between the lines just turned me off from this book. Otherwise, the content is pretty good. It's just the style of writing that is not great. I'd like to read a summary of this book.

I thought this book was going to be all about technology, it ended up being about humanity.

Although I believe I would find this author trite and morally relativistic [an unacceptable state of being] this is still an important book and addition to the library of AI advances and thinking.
While I don't agree with all the author's assessments, he does offer some thoughtful commentary on present AI technology and I am in full agreement that with the addition of AI to so many processes, exponential or hyperbolic advances are most likely to occur.
[I wonder if the author's firms have helped in any way in China's implementation of their hyper-Orwellian Social Credit System???]

You are a civil engineer, and may think A.I. is not relevant to you. You are wrong. It is relevant, maybe much more than you thought. Presently earth moving vehicles apply electronic sensing, data processing, use of vision devices, and other software application for getting the job done. Eventually A.I. is becoming more user friendly and students and practising civil engineers need to capture this skill set to fully exploit its benefit from surveying to earth moving. My suggestion is start a semester's course and have me teach it.

Elsewhere from bio science to warehouse inventory A.I. is making in-roads in laboratories and production floors.
