The second book to the Masterminds series, Criminal Destiny is fun, fast-paced, and ultimately a great read.
In the beginning of the book, Malik, Tori, Eli and Amber are hiding in Randy's boarding school, playing poker and trying to learn about the Real World. They have to leave soon, because the Purple People Eaters are catching up with them. From the boarding school to Denver and beyond, they have to try to keep themselves alive while trying to come up with proof to show to the police about Project Osiris. But could one of them have cut a deal with the enemy? Better read it to find out!

This was the second book in the Masterminds series. It was an awesome book. As we know from the first book, Eli, Tori, Amber, and Malik have found their friend Randy and are now trying to fit in with everyone else in the real world. The children are scared, but they know that they have to get to the bottom of their mission. In the first book, the children found out out about a top secret project named Project Osiris. In this project, normal children are cloned as mastermind criminals. As they are trying to figure things out, the kids have different ideas. Amber decides that they have to tell the police about everything. The others don't agree with her but she is convinced that telling the police is the right decision. Amber tells the police but ends up putting herself and the others in danger. Amber is smart, but she found it most hard to accept the truth about her life. The four kids also try their best to track down a mysterious billionaire named Tamara Dunleavy. She is told to be the founder of Project Osiris. As they are trying to find the answers to all their questions, they are unknowingly breaking laws by stealing vehicles and sneaking into houses and shelter. The readers finally get to see their criminal identity. This book is filled with suspense ans mystery. The characters, settings, and story is extraordinary and I think that the author put a lot of time and effort into writing this fantastic book. I would undoubtedly recommend reading this book! @Vanilla of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

full of surprising twists, characters in crisis, and lots of action, masterminds is a truly
jam-packed book. revolving around project Osiris, an experiment determining whether people are born bad, or if its the environment they are sounded by that determine their wickedness.
the plot point is utterly unpredictable with actually surprising twists, but the most important part about this book series is the characters. all of the characters have a great chemistry together and they seem to have normal interactions. for clones of criminal masterminds.

One of the things that I admire most about Gordan Korman are his characters—realistic and relatable. This book is the thrilling sequel to 'Masterminds', packed with adventure and sharp twists that will keep you hungering for more. Easy to read, and NOT jammed with overwhelming detail, confusing storylines, and mature topics. I'd have to say, however, this sequel was not as good as the first. It was a little less—what's the word?—mysterious? Intriguing?
I look forward to reading the third book in the series.

Masterminds: Criminal Destiny by Gordon Korman, 311 pages.
@ SPL: J FIC Korma
At the end of Masterminds, Eli Frieden and three friends narrowly escaped from Serenity after discovering some dangerous secrets about their isolated, supposedly “ideal” town. Closely pursued by the town’s ruthless security squad (“The Purples”), they took refuge with Randy, a friend who had been forced to leave Serenity a few months earlier.
The sequel, Masterminds: Criminal Destiny, continues their story.
The Purples have now discovered them and they must flee for their lives. As the unwitting clones of “Project Osiris”, Eli, Tori, Amber and Malik are determined to expose the secret project, its criminal origins and the leaders of Serenity. Meanwhile their own survival is at stake. Where can they go? They are being relentlessly hunted. None of them have ever been away from Serenity before, and the “real” world outside of Serenity is proving to be a confusing, unkind place. People aren’t merely unfriendly – some of them are also dangerous. Who can they trust?
Readers will be cheering on the smart, likeable young protagonists as they make the brave decision to travel to the very heart of the sinister Project Osiris.
Full of suspense, unexpected twists and developments, Masterminds: Criminal Destiny is a true page-turner as well as a cliff-hanger. Readers will be anxious to read the just-published third volume in the series, Payback.
